The Inauguration of Péter Magyar, Budapest, May 2026
On the 9th May 2026, Péter Magyar was sworn in as Hungary's Prime Minister, following a landslide election for his party, TISZA, the month prior and meteoric rise in opposition to Viktor Orbán, the deeply divisive incumbent Prime Minister. Magyar had risen to prominence within only two years, bringing his party, Tisza, both in from extra-parliamentary status and to the forefront of politics, quickly becoming the leading opposition party and, from the 9th May, governing party of Hungary. I was in Budapest for the inauguration ceremony.
